We welcome and encourage volunteers to help at the Maine Center on Deafness
in the Portland office or at our Peer Support Group events. Whether you have an
hour to give or can come in on a regular basis, we appreciate your time, effort
and energy. Plus, it is also a great way to practice your American Sign Language
(ASL) skills if you are learning or want an environment in which to sign.
Our in office projects for volunteers include preparing mailings, data entry,
photo copying, filing and other office projects. If you would like to volunteer
in the office at the Maine Center on Deafness, please e-mail us at
info@mcdmaine.org or call us at (207) 797-7656.
You may be interested in volunteering for in a Peer Support Group event. Peer
Support Group events are recreational and social events for D/deaf, hard of
hearing and non-verbal adults with mental retardation and/or mental illness.
Volunteers assist with events such as picture bingo, craft projects, or ice
cream socials. Groups meet twice a month in the evenings in Augusta, Bangor,
Lewiston, and Portland. The Maine Center on Deafness coordinates these
events and can provide meeting dates and more information if
you are interested in attending or volunteering for one of these events. For
more information, contact the Maine Center on Deafness at (207) 797-7656 or email
info@mcdmaine.org.
We also need volunteers to help with fundraising or public speaking for outreach
events. If you have a special skill you would like to offer, please let us know
at (207) 797-7656 or via e-mail at
info@mcdmaine.org.
