Why Give to MCD?

Your Gift Creates Vital Life Connections:  Your tax-deductible gift, no matter the size, bridges the silence that isolates as many as 10,000 Mainers from loved ones, employment, everyday life. Without MCD and its programs many would continue to live in silence. MCD puts the D/deaf, late-deafened, hard of hearing and those with speaking difficulty in contact with each other, connects them with MCD and other service providers, and with opportunities for better lives.

Your Gift Provides Essential Funding: MCD’s main sources of income — state contracts — are not enough to cover the cost of MCD services. Support from MCD clients, friends, and supporters enables MCD to meet crucial needs for program essentials. Gifts to the MCD Annual Appeal may be unrestricted to support MCD’s everyday expenses and unfunded program expenses. Or you may designate funds to a particular program or activity.

MCD Programs include:

• Social and educational services and communication for people with Developmental Delays

• HIV prevention

• ASL promotion

• MCD’s telephone equipment, and one-of-a-kind free emergency alert pager program

• Civil rights advocacy, including legal assistance

Examples of the difference your gift could make:
$20 two months emergency notification pager service
$40 one hour of legal and advocacy interpreting
$80 one monthly Peer Support Meeting for 50 clients with communication challenges OR one month of copier ink and paper
$100 one month D-Link service at MCD for live visual “phone” calls for ASL users OR one week of MCD expanded office hours for before-work and after-work services OR one client’s enrollment in MCD’s free specialized telephone or emergency alert equipment program
$250 one full-day in Augusta educating legislators about the hearing aid bill, the need for equipment, and civil rights issues OR
one MCD staff meeting for MCD staff to plan service delivery
$500 one Deaf Rights Group meeting for collaborative, grassroots advocacy work
$1,000 one issue of MCD newsletter reaching 1,100 interested readers OR one day of bringing MCD’s programs to Presque Isle or other distant towns in Maine
